On Monday 15th July, we had the privilege of attending a civic reception, hosted by the Mayor of Stockport, Councillor Suzanne Wyatt, inside the impressive surroundings of Stockport Town Hall to celebrate the King’s Award win.

We were also joined by Leader of Stockport Borough Council Councillor Mark Hunter, Immediate Past Mayor of Stockport Councillor Graham Greenhalgh, Deputy Lieutenants Mr Paul Brearley JP, Mr Gerry Yeung OBE and Rev Charles Kwaku-Odoi, who all joined us to celebrate our achievement of being Stockport’s only recipient of the King’s Award for Enterprise 2024.

During the reception, we discussed Seda’s exceptional growth, future growth potential through our investment and expansion into GMP manufacturing, our rapidly expanding global Client portfolio and the positive impact this is having on the local economy and our ability to create new, high-skilled jobs in the region.

A special thank you to Madam Mayor Suzanne for hosting this wonderful event and for the opportunity to connect with the other Council leaders and Deputy Lieutenants.

We welcome the opportunity to continue this collaboration with our local community leaders to drive positive change into the Stockport eco-system.

A fantastic open day full of science and networking!

On Tuesday 8th November 2022, Seda hosted an Open Day at our new state-of-the-art Head Quarters based at Cheadle Royal Business Park. There was a great turn out for our first event, with more than 40 guests from all over the UK. It was a brilliant opportunity to welcome our existing clients and business partners and for our new contacts to see where the magic happens!

Open Day attendees networking in Seda kitchen area

The Open Day showcased our new facilities alongside demonstrations of the services that we offer. In particular, the Open Day launched Seda’s new in-silico offering MI-DAS (Model-Informed Development of Amorphous Systems), state of the art processing suites, and our capabilities surrounding the design and development of complex medicines.

Paul Stott, Paul Dickinson and Marcel de Matas presenting at the open day

The day began with a welcome and introduction from Seda’s directors, with Paul Stott presenting an overview of Seda’s history and a glimpse into our future direction. Paul Dickinson offered some insight into Seda’s integrated modelling capabilities, and how this supports all stages of the drug development process, followed by Marcel de Matas introducing Seda’s laboratory offerings. Our guests got first-hand demonstrations of our laboratory capabilities during the lab tours, with Seda’s analytical, formulation, dissolution and processing equipment in action. The day finished with a delicious lunch provided by Open Kitchen MCR.

There were a lot of inspiring scientific discussions and networking during the poster session – it was great to meet some new contacts and also see some familiar faces!

Seda was founded in 2015 by pharmaceutical experts Paul Dickinson and Marcel de Matas to provide consultancy services across the biotech industry, originally based at Alderley Park.

The decision to change location was driven by the recent period of rapid growth within the company, with ambitious plans for further expansion over the coming years, both in terms of personnel and in the services we offer to our clients.

Seda has undertaken a full refit of the new property, with a total investment nearing £4m, developing state-of-the-art laboratories and bespoke office space. This is enabling us to invest in new equipment to expand the range of services we offer clients.

We look forward to welcoming you to our new home.

We are excited to announce that we will be attending this year’s Bionow 2021 Oncology Conference at Alderley Park on Thursday 4th November as gold exhibitors. Seda’s Senior Principal Scientist, Claire Patterson, will be presenting at the conference, speaking about Bioavailability, Drug Delivery and Formulation, along with representatives from N4 Pharma and Quotient Biosciences.

Some key messages from Claire’s presentation:

  • The First step in formulation design is the target product profile (TPP) which brings together patient, disease, and molecule factors for optimal performance.
  • Implicit in the TPP is selection of optimal route of administration
  • Apply biopharma ceutics thinking – understand the physicochemical properties, administration site physiology and their interaction to achieve target in vivo performance profile.
  • Understand the competing processes and use mathematical modelling to understand limitations and mitigations.  This is a key Seda capability.
  • Understanding the rate limiting step in absorption to enable selection of appropriate formulation mitigation strategy, e.g. amorphous solid dispersions for solubility limited absorption. Where other factors limit bioavilability e.g instability, low inherent permeability/extensive efflux, extensive gut wall or hepatic first pass metabolism explore other options such as permeation enhancers or targeting ligands, or consider parenteral administration.
  • There is an increasing trend towards subcutaneous delivery in oncology, particularly mAbs. Clear advantages over IV, not least the ability for the patients to self administer or at least require much less hospital/ chair time than IV infusion.
  • Mechanistic understanding of absorption rate and bioavailability is lagging behind that for oral, but significant progress is being made and Seda are linked in to communities driving these developments.

The Bionow conference will also feature other insightful discussions and presentations including Early Detection/New Approaches, Multiomics in Oncology Research, Role of Biobanks in Cancer Research & Patient Care – Benchtop to Bedside, The Use of Wearables and AI to get Close to Patients and The Future of Cancer Therapy. Other keynote speakers at the event include Anke Bruning Richardson, University of Huddersfield and Kimberly Shepard, Lonza.

As a gold exhibitor, we will also have a stand in the exhibition to promote our capabilities. Come and see us to find out more about our complex medicines expertise and how we can provide value to your business.
